DMC Mid West and american pickers

Monday 29th July 2013
Today we drove from Chicago to Le Claire at Iowa via Crystal Lake.  On the way we stopped off at DMC Midwest to say hi and to have a look around the shop.  This was the last DMC dealer that we had to visit in the USA and we have now met and looked around all of the shops.  From there we headed for Le Claire to stop off at the home town of the American Pickers, Mike and Frank.  The shop is exactly how it looks on TV but Danielle does not work there.  Mike and Frank were also not there as they were out filming the show.  The town of Le Claire is pretty good with a nice setting right on the bank of the Mississippi river.  Tomorrow we head to St Louis to see the arch.

willis tower and millennium park

Sunday 28th July 2013
Today saw us up early with plans to walk around the city and check out all the sites.  Made our way into downtown where we went to the Millennium Park and 'the cloud.'  Walked around the downtown area and under the 'L' train line.  Made our way to Willis Tower where we lined up for two hours to get to the top.  The wait was worth it and the view was simply stunning.  Walked to the lake and checked out the parks and gardens where we had a look at the big fountain that is there.  We then walked along the lake edge all the way to Navy Pier where it was packed with people.  There was a combination of kids, rides, cruises and food.  Decided to have dinner on the pier before walking back to the hotel room.  We spent all day standing and walking so it was time for some rest.  Off to DMC Midwest tomorrow to meet Julee and Dave and then on to Le Claire Iowa to drop in and see the American Pickers, Mike, Frank and Danny.  Slowly now making our way south to St Louis.

harleys, beer and art

Saturday 27th July 2013
Spent the day in Milwaukee today and checked out some of the sites in town.  We went to the Milwaukee Art Museum for a look and then a nice walk along the edge of the lake.  Took a bit of a walk into the city area and got some nice lunch around the canal area.  Made our way back to the car and went to the Lakefront Brewery for a bit of a look.  Bought a sample pack of their 8 different beers to try.  From there we went to the Harley Davidson Museum and spent a couple of hours looking through there.  The H-D Museum is amazing.  They have kept one of every model since Harley's began and they are all un-restored original condition.  It really was a great place for a look even though motorbikes do not really excite me.  Bought some goodies in the shop and then hit the road for Chicago.  Was only a short trip and we made it to our hotel which was right in the city at Chicago.  The room was amazing and so was the location.  We went for a walk to the John Hancock Building for a look but we just missed the last entry to go up.  Cant wait to check out the rest of the city tomorrow.
