dmc northwest and boeing tour

Monday 27th October 2014
Today we headed to DeLorean Motors Northwest to see Toby and to pick up some parts that I had ordered.  No good coming to the States without getting some DeLorean parts.  Had a great couple of hours with Toby having a look around the shop and picking his brain a little about all things DeLorean.
From there we headed to the Boeing Factory and the Future of Flight Museum for a look.  We love to do the Boeing factory tour which gives you a 90 minute tour of the factory to see 747's, 777's and 787's being made.  It is an amazing site to see these beauties being made.  The factory is the largest building by volume in the world.
The green coating over the aluminum is a protective coating that washes off in hot water to protect the plane before it's painted.
You can't take your camera on the tour so we only have photos from a distance which are taken from the roof of the museum.  There was also a highlight after the tour seeing the Dreamlifter arriving and unloading completed tail sections for new 787 Dreamliners.
Once we got kicked out of the museum on closing we headed to Applebees for dinner which was just up the road a bit.  From there we just headed back to Em's house.
Tomorrow we head to Portland Oregon for a day trip.

seattle during fall and space needle

Sunday 26th October 2014
Today we went to breakfast along the local streets where we are staying.  Emiliana lives close to this amazing street, a little bit like the Parade in Norwood back home.  The breakfast was nice and was most enjoyed.  After that we were taken on a drive around the local area and parks with views over looking Lake Washington.  The autumn leaves are stunning around Seattle right now.  We then went for a drive on our own and went down to the Museum of Flight to have a look at the Concorde and the prototype Boeing 747 which sit outside.  These can be observed for free from the outside.  From there we drove to down town, found a park and walked around the base of the Space Needle and the Monorail.  We then went back to the house where we went with Emiliana to the Old Spaghetti Factory back down town.  We had a bit of a walk along the foreshore and snapped a couple of photos before heading home for the night.

Today was just a full day of travel.  We needed to drive for about an hour to get to the airport at Orlando.  We caught our first flight from Orlando to Detroit with an hour and a half stop over continuing to Seattle.  We also had a three hour time change to go with it.  Arrived at Seattle at 7.30 p.m. and picked up our rental car which this time round is a Prius C hybrid for something different.  Got some food to eat before heading to Emiliana's house where we are staying.  Probably have a bit of a sleep in due to the time change and lack of sleep.  Tomorrow we will check out Seattle.

atlantis and nasa

Friday 24th October 2014
Today we left from Jacksonville and headed towards Cape Canaveral to see the Kennedy Space Center and the space shuttle Atlantis.  Atlantis was the only one of the four that we had not seen, so we thought while we were here we better do that one as well.  Atlantis is set up so that it looks like it is in orbit with the cargo doors open.
We were about 2 hours away as we had to head further south to get there.  Passed by Daytona on the way.  We really only wanted to see the shuttle as we had been to the Kennedy Space Center only 2 years ago.
Paid our money and went straight to the shuttle.  Wow it was impressive.  The way it sat in the display and the building it is housed in was so well set up.  We ended up spending almost 3 hours just looking at the shuttle display before leaving.
By this time it was dinner time and we hit Denny's tonight before checking into out Motel at Melbourne Florida!!
Tomorrow it's about a 1 hour drive to Orlando to the airport and then a flight to Seattle.  That will take us all day to get there.
