palm springs and salton sea

Wednesday 5th November 2014
Today was just a quite day with a bit of shopping first at the Fashion Show Mall.  Then a 4 hour drive to Palm Springs.  The drive was nice but the roads were quite busy once we got close to LA.  Arrived at The Curve where we were staying and then went to Denny's for dinner.  Tomorrow is the last day and we have to have the car back to Hertz by around 5.30 p.m.  But first we will do a side track to the Salton Sea for a look.

Today's first adventure was to fit everything inside our bags.  We have bought lots of goodies and its going to be a struggle!  It all fit but only just.
Got some late breakfast from Subway and then drove an hour to the Satlon Sea.  It was really very beautiful and the days was just georgous.  One of the hotest days we had since the first few days.  It was 30 degrees celcius and perfect.
After a trip to Bombay Beach we had to hit the road to get to the airport on time.  It was just under 200 miles but we had about 4 hours to do it.  Got to Hertz gave back the Nissan and got the bus to the terminal.  Once our luggage was cheked we had about 2 hours in the lounge.  That was a fancy lounge with great food.
Skip ahead 15 hours and I'm now sitting in Sydney Virgin Australia Lounge and it's now Saturday!!  The trip is all but over.
Back to work Monday morning.......

shelby and ricks restoration

Tuesday 4th November 2014
By the time we got organised and left the Luxor it was time for lunch.  After lunch we hit the Southern Outlet Mall and bought some sneakers.
After that we made our way to Shelby America.  They offer two free tours a day and we had made it in time for the 1.30 p.m. slot.  The tour was excellent and there was so much to see.  From the first Shelby Cobra to the latest and greatest Shelby 1000 which has an output of 1020 hp at the rear wheels!!  We ended up spending about 2.5 hours at Shelby and we still wanted to go and check out Ricks Restoration.
Got to Ricks by 4.00 p.m. and we managed to get on the last tour of the workshop for the day.  On entry to the shop we saw Brettly who was sitting in a golf cart near the gates.  None of the other were there, they had all finished work for the day.  The tour was pretty good and there was a number of items that we recognised from the tv.
Tonight we were staying at the Westgate due to the Luxor being about $400 for Tuesday night due to the SEMA car show.  Not quite as good as the Luxor but not too bad really.
Tomorrow we head to Palm Springs as we make our way to LA.  Our flight home is Thursday night :-(

Sunday 2nd November 2014
Today was a rest and relax day.  I went to the spa in the morning and once finished we went and got some lunch.  Just had a bit of a drive around Vegas taking it all in.

Monday 3rd November 2014
Once again I started the day with a visit to the spa.  After that we walked through to Mandalay Bay resort to meet James.  James works for Luxor and I meet him last year while we were staying here.  I wanted to catch up with him and we had organised to meet at Johnny Rockets for lunch.  It was good to catch up with him even if it was just for one hour.
We then walked all the way down the strip to the High Roller, which is the tallest observation wheel in the world.  It stands at 168 metres, 550 feet tall and gives an awesome view over the strip and right out to the desert and mountains.
After the High Roller we went to the Linq which has the Auto Collection in it.  This was the old Imperial Palace which has been done up and renamed.  The cars here were very nice and most of them for sale.
It was then a long walk back to the Luxor south along the strip taking in the Bellagio Fountain on the way.
