bryce canyon

Monday 12th August 2019
Today we set off from our cabin with fantastic weather in toe.  It was a beautiful morning and we only had a short drive to get to Bryce Canyon.  Once at the park entrance we stopped for the mandatory photo of the entrance way and then drove all the way to the end of the park at Rainbow Point and stared there.  The pullouts were all on the return side of the road so it made sense to stop at them on the return journey.  We did a short walk at Rainbow Point and then slowly made our way back through the park.  We did a nice big walk at Bryce Point which took us all the way in to the canyon to the peek a boo trail.  It was very steep and took us over an hour to do.  It was an amazing walk as the landscape is so incredible. We finished off with the Sunset lookout and then started our journey to Las Vegas.  Left the park about 3pm and arrived into Vegas around 7. Checked into Luxor and then went and had dinner.  It had been a long and exhausting day and we slept so well.  The next 4 nights and days will be filled with a whole lot of relaxing and bumming around Vegas.

arches

Sunday 11th August 2019
Today we check out of Moab and go to Arches NP. The park is literally only a couple of miles out of town.  We got in pretty quick,  there wasn't much of a line up.  Arches is up there with my most favourite parks in the usa.  Today was still hot but we managed a few shorter walks and covered about 10 kms. I really did want to do the Delicate arch walk,  but that is 2 to 3 hours of extreme walking and height change.  You are meant to carry at least a gallon of water per walker.  We decided to do the short walk to see the arch from a distance.  Not the same but still okay.  Again lots of amazing colours in the rocks and sand.  Today we travel towards Bryce Canyon NP which was about 4 hours away.  The drive was good and we got into a place called Hatch Utah well before dark.  Shortly after we went for dinner at a road side cafe called The Hoodoo Hideout Cafe. The food was really good.  If you ate all of their special steak roll they took your photo and put on the wall.  I ate all mine as did a table of 4 Australians from Perth sitting next to us.  The lady who served us possibly owned the cafe and she would have been north of 70 at a guess and really funny.
Full bellies and ready for bed,  so back to the cabin.  Tomorrow is Bryce Canyon before heading to Vegas.

This is delicate arch and it's a close as we got.
