salton sea to san diego

Friday 31st July 2015
Another hot day in Palm Springs as we head to the Salton Sea.  Last year we drove around the eastern side of the Salton Sea this year we wanted to check out the western side.  We headed out of Palm Springs and went through Salton Sea Beach and Salton City.  It is such a strange feeling to go to these places that are now like ghost towns and have almost nothing left behind from yesteryear.  Salton City is quite sad as they set the town up for thousands of houses and only seem to have built a handful.  There is a fire station there all set up and it appears to be in the middle of nowhere.  It was kind of right in the middle of where the town should be.  From Salton City we went west towards San Diego which took us a couple of hours.  It was a very winding and hilly road through Anza-Borrego Desert State Park.  It was very pretty in places and we stopped and took in a couple of lookouts.  Got to the Vagabond Motel and checked in then headed out for dinner to Denny's which was just around the corner.  Tomorrow we head to the Zoo.
