monument valley

Thursday 3rd August 2017
These national parks in the USA just keep getting better.   Today was time for Monument Valley but we first had a 360km drive to get there.  We left Moab and by the time we stopped for lunch it had gone 2pm by the time we got there.  Had a look around the visitor centre for a bit and then started the valley loop track which is about 25km around the base of the valley.   The weather was a bit weird.  It was a bit cloudy when we arrived and by the time we stared to do the dirt track the wind came up and it was difficult to see from the dust.   Then came some rain and the dark grey clouds rolled in.   The temp dropped from about 30 down to the low 20's.  The view was still amazing but the orange rocks and sand changed colour in the different lighting.   We took just over 2 hours to complete the loop track stopping at most of the pullouts taking photos etc.   Once back at the visitor centre the black skies really came in and the rain came back.  By this time it was 5.30pm and time to head to Page Arizona.  After a 200km trip we arrived at the motel,  checked in and headed out for dinner.  Went to the Canyon King Pizzeria which is in a re purposed paddle steamer.  The pizza was great,  we have eaten there the last couple of times as well.  Quick trip to Walmart for some supplies and back to the room.  Off to The Grand Canyon tomorrow.
