A nice drive today from Le Claire to St Louis to see the Gateway arch, about 400 kms. We didn't end up leaving our room until 11.00 am and we had a reasonable distance to travel. By the time we made our way to St Louis it was around 5.00 pm. The arch was amazing, it is so tall at 192 metres (630 feet) and opened in 1968. It is made from welded stainless steel panels which have concrete inside to reinforce it. There is a lift/car that takes you to the top so you can look out from the inside of it. It is kind of a strange feeling being so high up with a feeling that there is noting supporting you. We spent around half an hour at the top before coming down. Our accommodation in St Louis was fantastic, we booked a last minute deal at the Hyatt giving us a beautiful and cheap room!! Tomorrow we are off to Nashville.
