Saturday 5th June
Since we were about 15 kms from Downtown Vancouver we decided to catch the Sky Train in instead of driving and getting a park etc. There was a train station right near our motel. Caught the Sky Train which was really good, it's and elevated train that is automated and has no driver. Got out in Downtown and walked around the harbour where there was a cruise liner in which looked like it was getting ready to leave. In the water at the harbour we could also see a seal which was swimming around and kept looking at us.
From there we walked through the city and stopped for some lunch. We kept walking towards the south west which was the cosmopolitan side of town and close to the beach. We walked through to Sunset Beach where there was an incredible amount of people taking advantage of the perfect weather. There was some bronze statues of men near the beach which I had to imitate while Bronte took my photo. From there we hired some bikes and then road them along the seawall pathway which had shared bike and foot traffic.
We really got some good views of the harbours and the bridge as we completed a lap of Stanley Park. We stopped off at the totem poles in Stanley Park, we had remembered these totems from an episode of The Amazing Race, not sure of which season but we think it was a pit stop. As we went further around the park we came along an old man balancing rocks on top of each other. He was trying to sell photos of his creations but we took our own photos. In all we did an anticlockwise lap of the park and arrived back at Sunset Beach. It had taken about two hours to complete the lap and then we took the bike back.
We caught a bus back to the train station and then headed back to the motel. Decided to have dinner in the pub that was connected to the motel. The food was quite nice and we got 15% off as we were staying there. Tomorrow we are heading to Whistler for the day and then onto Kamloops for the night.
