Friday 22nd April 2011.

Today we did a bike ride across the Golden Gate Bridge. We got up in not to bad a time and took the street car to the wharf area to the 'Bike and Roll' bike hire place. We all were fitted out with a bike and helmet and we set off. We headed out onto the road and travelled for a few hundred metres before we got to the bike track. We rode along the coast past Crissy Beach where we stopped and took a couple of the above photos. From there we rode right to the start of the bridge where there was a sample piece of cable that holds the roadway up. This cable is huge!! Then it was on to the bridge, where we stopped every few hundred metres to take some photos and take in the marvelous view. Once we got to the other side we stopped and looked back on the bridge. It was then onto Sausalito where we had planned to have fish and chips for lunch. After lunch we had a bit of a look around the town and then lined up to catch the ferry back to San Francisco. Every other person must have had the same idea as there was about 400 people with bikes lined up too. In total we waited for about an hour for the ferry. Once back to the port of San Francisco we had a 2 or 3km ride back to the hire place to drop off the bikes. So a 15km ride and a ferry ride across the bay took us about 6 hours to complete but it was a fantastic day. Got the street car back to the motel and started to look at where we are going to head next.

Off to Oregon we think.
