Left Orlando this morning and headed to Savannah with no real plans on the way. We headed into town to check out the city and then headed towards Savannah. As we travelled we approached Daytona and wouldn't you know it we were at Daytona Raceway!! We drove around the complex and found the entrance with a sign stating they did daily tours. In we went and paid our money to do the next tour up from the basic one. This lasted 90 minutes, taking us to all areas within the complex, track, finish line, banks, in field, podium, pits and the different displays available to people on race day. We also got a trip to the main box where the media and race callers sit, (the big black glass box in the photo above). Also on display was the winning Daytona 500 race car exactly how it finished the race. Dirty and covered in confetti, bugs and grime. The tour was awesome and you really don't appreciate how banked the track is (31 degrees) on the turns. By the time we finished the tour we grabbed a quick bite to eat and then headed towards Daytona Beach for a look. The beach area and street was really nice with a big jetty containing a restaurant and other food outlets. A little while spent on the beach and then back in the car to Savannah. Got to the accommodation in Savannah and was really impressed with our room. Also decided to stay an extra day as the historic area in Savannah looked like we could spend a while looking around.
